Operational History in WWII
Early Service
The first production aircraft flew in March 1939, and deliveries began to No. 216 Squadron RAF in Egypt later that year.
Although obsolete as a bomber in Europe, it briefly served with No. 271 Squadron ferrying supplies to the British Expeditionary Force in France in 1940.
One notable episode involved French pilot Jean Demozay, who used an abandoned Bombay to escape France with 15 troops, later becoming an RAF ace.

Middle Eastern Combat
The Bombay’s principal theatre was the Middle East, where 216 Squadron operated most of the fleet at some point.
